Spencer Gordon-Sand is Founder and GP at Spencer Ventures, Partner at Lofty Ventures.

When I graduated High School I didn't go to college, instead, I fenced on the World Cup circuit for Team USA and photographed fencing for Nike and Red Bull.

While I was competing and traveling, I joined an ed-tech startup in New York. There I won a contract worth several millions of dollars from the DPT of Ed. I got promoted to C suite and helped the company raise a venture round.

It was fun, but I was working in EdTech without myself having a higher education degree, so I went to the University of Chicago to study economics and creative writing.

I had saved enough money from my startup and from buying and selling Magic: The Gathering trading cards to start my own company while in undergrad. The company, called Besst, was a social media platform for betting with social incentives instead of money. I sold that company a year after founding it.

I then ran the acquiring company for a year and a half raising a large venture round. When the pandemic hit and I finished my degree, I stepped away from that company and started venture investing at Lofty Ventures, eventually becoming a partner at the firm.

At Lofty Ventures, I helped deploy into 32 companies in one calendar year. I also founded our venture syndication practice which helps accredited investors get access to hot deals and learn more about angel investing in the process.

While I was doing venture, I found NFTs through Clubhouse and was lucky enough to be an early investor in BAYC, Cool Cats, RTFKT ecosystem, and many others. I 150x'ed the portfolio in 8 months before selling 70% of it to buy more Magic: The Gathering trading cards in December of 2021. NFTs reminded me a lot of buying and selling trading cards, but with the startup component that I had lived in for so long.

During that time, I brokered the deal that brought punks to the Olympics, got quoted in Verge, became chair of the Rug Radio DAO council, and have become intimately involved with many more artists, founders, and projects behind the scenes. I also am a frequent guest on the two most popular morning NFT twitter space shows: GM NFTs on Rug Radio and the NFT AlphaPodcast.
