Omorika Ventures is an endemic seed and early series A venture capital fund focused on investing and supporting visionary founders and strong technology companies from the SEE region.
Omorika is the traditional name of Picea omorika, a fascinating endemic tree species. Our fund is named Omorika in honour of this endangered beauty.
Omorika is the perfect symbol of our investment fund (authentic and rare) and what it strives to become (gigantic and strong). It is also an ideal measure we are looking for in our future partners - endurance and groundbreaking spirit.
Today, Omorika is very rare and precious. In the wilderness, it grows only in the Drina River valley in western Serbia and eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Being native to the Balkans, Omorika is one of the symbols of its authentic nature. Before Josif Pančić discovered it, this region was wrongly assessed as "botanically uninteresting". This discovery changed the world's perception of the natural wealth of this region. It is also an ecosystem builder – while it is developing on the damaged land, it builds a new ecosystem around it, providing the nutrients needed for other plants to grow and regenerate the soil. It perfectly describes the efforts we initially made with the ICT Hub and ICT Hub Venture to create an ecosystem that can produce strong founders and good companies. We plan to do the same across the SEE region.
As an environmentally conscious organisation, we use the opportunity to contribute to the preservation of Omorika, as well as to show the world the potential of domestic businesses.
