Unfortunately, the market for a 5'11 (in shoes) shooting guard with average speed, below average ball handling, and what most would (do) call a non-existent vertical is not as expansive as the 13 year old version of me would have hoped for...
So I did what any person in my situation would do...I joined the debate team.
I would have never in my wildest dreams imagined what this activity would mean to my career, my thinking, and just who I have become as a person. Debate taught me how to communicate and be comfortable being uncomfortable. It taught me how to listen, and how to be nimble in my thinking.
Debate is essentially the best sales bootcamp one could ever go through...and I spent over a decade inside the activity both as a competitor as well as a coach (winning national titles as both).
The skills I obtained translated as well as you can imagine into sales and I can say that I was born to sell and lead sellers.
If you were here hoping to read more about my corporate experience, and how my numbers stack up, and sales philosophy that everyone in my role would typically post...I apologize, you won't find that here… I want you to know what makes me different, not how on paper I fit in a box.
